A round-up of everything that happened as Surrey Women travelled to Totton & Eling CC to play Hampshire in two T20 fixtures in this year’s Vitality Women’s County T20 competition.
Hannah Jones’ side were looking to build on their back-to-back victories over Essex on Bank Holiday Monday and claw themselves closer to South East group leaders Kent.

Match 1 – Surrey won by four runs
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Surrey Women got off to a solid start with opening batters Amy Gordon (33 from 32) and Alice Capsey (17 from 17).
From there however, Aylish Cranstone (12), Kirstie White (9), Chloe Brewer (6) and Hannah Jones (0) came and went. It was up to Kira Chathli and Rhianna Southby to extract what they could from the innings, making 10 and 11 respectively as Surrey reached 104 all out.
Jones removed two opener Fi Morris and captain Emily Windsor early in Hampshire’s response, the former with the ball and the latter run out. Another five wickets fell but Charlie Dean held firm at the other, scoring 46 from 54 as Hampshire ended on 100/7. In terms of figures for Surrey bowlers, Claudie Cooper’s 2/15 stood out while captain Jones’ 2/20 also had a key impact.

Match 2 – Hampshire won by 11 runs (DLS)
Dean sat out the second match but it was her replacement that top scorer as Hampshire batted first this time. Sophie Mitchelmore batted much of the innings as wickets fell around her and made 43 of Hampshire’s 120/5. Off spinners Capsey and Cooper were again in the wickets, taking 2/18 and 2/20 from their respective overs.
Surrey lost Capsey in the first over of their response before Amy Gordon (17) and Kirstie White (25) began to put a dent in the required total. Rain arrived with Surrey on 57/4 from 9.5 overs, slightly behind the required rate.
Once it had cleared and calculations had been made, it was decided Surrey needed 45 from 37 balls. However, they lost five of their six remaining wickets in the pursuit and made just 33 runs.
