Surrey’s Ralphie Albert has been called up to represent England Men U19s during the upcoming Youth ODI tri-series against Scotland Men U19s and Ireland Men U19s at Loughborough.
The 16 year-old has been part of the Surrey Talent Pathway since U9s and has been a regular in the U18 age group this season. Albert bowls excellent left arm spin and this was crucial in his selection for the England representative side.
The all rounder plays his cricket at Banstead CC, representing the senior team this summer, and attends Epsom College. He was picked to take part in the ECB’s ‘Super Fours’ competition, a national competition that brings the best players from each region in U16 and U17 age groups.
Somerset wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew will for the first time captain England Men U19s during the upcoming Youth ODI tri-series against Scotland Men U19s and Ireland Men U19s at Loughborough.
Rew, 16, will lead an inexperienced Young Lions outfit in which Harry Moore, Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green are the only other capped players. James Minto and Ben Dawkins appeared for the Young Lions Invitational XI against Sri Lanka earlier this season.
Richard Halsall will step in as Head Coach in the absence of Mike Yardy, who will be part of the England Men coaching team during the white-ball series against Australia.
Halsall said: “It has been really exciting to see the development of the Under-19s this summer. We’ve seen a host of the squad from the Sri Lanka series go on to play first-team cricket and that gives us an opportunity to expose more young players to international cricket in this series.
“I am really looking forward to taking over the reins as coach from Yards. We know we will need to compete from ball one against Ireland and Scotland and I am looking forward to seeing the squad show off their skills in this series.”
