A Surrey graduate, Patel is an integral part of the Champion red-ball side
A graduate of the Surrey Academy, Ryan Patel has been an impeccable servant of the Club, playing some pivotal knocks throughout Surrey’s four County Championship triumphs since 2018.
One of his standout moments came during the Guildford victory over Somerset in 2018 when he claimed five wickets in 11 balls, ending with figures of 6/5 and a first-class record to boot.
His versatility with the bat;, operating as an opener right through the middle order and down to eight, as well as his right-arm medium pace saw him play 10 matches as Surrey went on to win the Specsavers County Championship. 2019 saw Ryan score his maiden first-class century for the Club.
Guildford has become a cherished venue for Patel, who smashed his maiden List A century there with 131 runs from just 70 balls against Nottinghamshire there in 2021.
Patel and skipper Burns opened the batting in every County Championship game of the 2022 season. The left hander scored 719 runs at an average of 35.95 that gave Surrey a solid base to perform from that eventually led to the Club’s 21st County Championship crown.
2024 was a special year for the left hander, striking two season-defining centuries – against Essex and Durham – in high-stake matches, under pressure, as Surrey completed a historic three-peat of County Championships. To reward his efforts in a Surrey shirt, Patel was honoured with a County cap by then Director of Men’s Cricket, Alec Stewart in the end-of-season awards ceremony.
