T20 HEAD TO HEAD
Lancashire and Surrey have played each other twice in T20 cricket before, with both games taking place on Finals Day.
The first game between the two sides was played in the 2004 semi-final, which Surrey won by one run at Edgbaston. Batting first, Surrey posted 133 all out with Ali Brown scoring 32. Azhar Mahmood shone with the ball, taking 2/22 as Lancashire fell a run short of Surrey’s total. Surrey were defeated in the final by Leicestershire.
The pair met again a year later at Finals Day at The Oval with Lancashire winning by 22 runs. Batting first, Lancs posted a total of 217 thanks to Andrew Symonds’ 52 not out and Andrew Flintoff’s 49. James Benning (42) and Ali Brown (51) got Surrey off to a flying start, however, Surrey could only muster 195 – falling 22 runs short. Lancashire progressed to the final, where they were beaten by Somerset.
