“I am so pleased to have seen Ben come through the Surrey Pathway and be an important part of our recent success. It was especially pleasing to see Geddo captain the side so well in the 2022 One Day Cup.

“While I am disappointed to see the pair leave Surrey and move to other counties, at the same time, having talked to both about it on numerous occasions, I fully understand and respect their decisions.

“Both believe moving elsewhere would bring him more playing opportunities and help further their cricket career, and we wish them well and thank the pair for their contributions over the years.”

Ben Geddes said “Surrey has been home for me for 14 years, it’s everything I’ve ever known. The staff, coaches, players have all been incredible. I’ve only got amazing things to say about my time here. That all being said, I’ve made the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, which is to move away from Surrey to a take on new challenge.

“I have mixed emotions but am excited for the new challenge and everything that might bring. A special thank you to Alec Stewart and Gareth Batty for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to live out a childhood dream. Thank you to everyone, I wish you all the very best.”

Conor McKerr said “Most importantly, I want to thank Stewie. From my first day at The Oval until my last day, he has helped me and supported me in life as well as cricket. I will always be grateful to him for what he has given me. He made my dream of being a professional sportsman a reality. So Stewie, thank you.

“What Batts and Burns have created here is something really special, and I feel very fortunate to have been a part of it for as long as I have.

“To all the teammates that have become friends that I will have forever, thank you.

“This has all made the decision to leave extremely difficult but in the end, I believe, the correct decision for me and my family.

“To everyone at Surrey CCC, thank you.”
