Aylish Cranstone, Phoebe Franklin and Ryana Macdonald-Gay will all wear the Three Feathers next season having signed contracts to play for Surrey from next season.
Aylish Cranstone captained Surrey’s county side in the 2022 and ’23 seasons. The middle-order batter, born in Guildford, has played nearly 50 times for the South East Stars and is an experienced member of the dressing room. Cranstone was part of the Oval Invincibles squad who won the 2022 edition of the Hundred.
All-rounder Phoebe Franklin has been a regular in the South East Stars team since 2021 with her skilful swing bowling and runs in the middle-order. Alongside Cranstone, Franklin was part of the South East Stars side that triumphed in the Charlotte Edwards Cup in 2021. She has also represented Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred.
Seamer Ryana Macdonald-Gay has had a very strong start to the 2024 season and is second in the list of wicket-takers in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy with 12 scalps at an average just over 11. She represented England at the 2023 U19 World Cup and is also able to add valuable lower-order runs for the team. She represents the Oval Invincibles in the Hundred and was part of the victorious 2023 team.
Surrey have now signed 10 players for the 2025 season, which will see eight ‘Tier One’ sides compete in the newly restructured women’s domestic set up.
Emma Calvert, Director of Women’s Cricket at Surrey CCC, said “The squad is shaping up really nicely for the 2025 season and beyond, and these three players all add real quality to the group.
“Aylish knows exactly what it means to represent Surrey and her experience will be invaluable to the team, she’s played some crucial knocks this season for the Stars and we’re looking forward to seeing her score more runs wearing a Surrey shirt.
“Phoebe is one of our most dynamic cricketers with bat and ball and has been a very reliable player for the Stars for several years now. She has the ability to succeed at all phases of the game with the ball and has played a variety of roles with the bat.
“It has been incredible to see Ryana’s progression over the last couple of years. The experience she gained as vice captain of England U19 at the World Cup helped to strengthen her game and she has only continued to excel from there.”
Aylish Cranstone said “I’m absolutely delighted to sign for this great club. Surrey has been home for me for a number of years and I can’t wait to continue this journey and make some more great memories.”
Phoebe Franklin said “I’m so excited to have signed with Surrey from next year. Growing up in south east London, I’ve known what a prestigious club it is and I’m delighted to represent them. This is such an exciting time and with the set up that Stars have made over the last few years, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be!”
Ryana Macdonald-Gay said “I’m really excited to have signed with Surrey and I’m looking forward to what representing the Three Feathers will bring. It’s an important time for the women’s game and we can’t wait to show what we can do.”
