SURREY SQUAD
Surrey have named a 15-player squad for the trip to Chelmsford.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, Surrey emphatically beat Warwickshire inside three days at Edgbaston.
Warwickshire were bowled out for 150 in the first innings as Dan Worrall (4/38) and Kemar Roach (3/33) wreaked havoc with the ball. Jamie Smith scored 88 as Surrey posted a first innings reply of 281 in difficult batting conditions.
Kemar Roach took his 500th First Class wicket as he took 5/34 as Warwickshre were bowled out for 141, leaving Surrey just 11 runs to win in the fourth innings.
Dan Worrall and Tom Lawes opened the Surrey innings – however Worrall was caught on the deep square leg boundary for 0. Rory Burns joined Lawes, but it was Lawes’ six into the Eric Hollies Stand that brought Surrey victory by nine wickets.
ESSEX
Since their opening round victory against Middlesex, Essex have drawn their last two matches against Lancashire and Kent.
Batters Matt Critchley and Tom Westley have averaged above 50 with the bat so far this season, with Jamie Porter topping the wicket-taking charts with 13 wickets at 19.14.
LAST TIME OUT VS ESSEX
Last July, Dan Worrall took 11 wickets and Will Jacks scored 150 not out as Surrey beat Essex by 6 wickets in the sweltering South London heat.
Dan Worrall took 6/56 as Essex were bowled out for 271 on the hottest day recorded in UK history. Worrall was well supported by Kemar Roach who took 3/63. Essex wicketkeeper batter Adam Rossington offered stiff resistance with a battling century.
Surrey found themselves 103/6 as Essex’s bowling attack fired on the second day. Will Jacks stood up against the Essex on-slaught, scoring a century from 168 balls. The Kia Oval was sent in to rapturous applause as Jacks took the Three Feathers 269/9 before unleashing some of the biggest hitting the famous old ground has ever seen. Jacks moved to 150 not out from a mere 16 balls as he hit ball after ball over the rope, taking Surrey to 319 before running out of partners.
Essex 16/2 were at stumps as Worrall continued his hot streak. Surrey managed to knock the visitors over for 208 as Worrall ended the match with incredible figures of 11/122.
Surrey knocked off the required 160 runs with relative ease as Jamie Overton smashed the ball in to the JM Finn Stand to give Surrey an emphatic win.
