Everyone at Surrey County Cricket Club and The Kia Oval were delighted this week to welcome the 2023 cohort from the Club’s State School Sixth Form project.

Last month, Surrey CCC announced they would be working with state schools across inner-city London and the wider county to offer students the opportunity to complete their sixth form academic studies alongside access to high quality cricket coaching, and strength-and-conditioning training.

The 2023 cohort, who will be starting their studies in September at George Abbot School in Guildford were given an all-access tour of The Kia Oval to help them understand the history and heritage of Surrey County Cricket Club and the iconic London venue.

The scholars were also shown where they will have the opportunity to train and play during their two-years of study, and were briefed on the role they will play as ambassadors for the Club.

They were introduced to the various professional departments across the Club, and even had chance to chat with Finance Director Andrew Lane, Director of Cricket Alec Stewart, Club Captain Rory Burns and new signing Dom Sibley.

Applications are currently open for students to take part in the programme and attend either Lilian Baylis Technology College in Kennington or St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College in Clapham. These schools are participating alongside the aforementioned George Abbot school in Guildford.
