Surrey have signed all-rounder Alice Monaghan for the 2025 season. Monaghan is the 13th player confirmed to play for the new, fully professional Surrey women’s team.

The right-arm seam bowler joins from the Southern Vipers and was part of their successful campaign in the 2020 Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy. She has been a regular in the Vipers team, playing 47 times for the Southampton-based side. Monagahan impressed in the double-header at the Kia Oval at the beginning of June, when she hit an attacking 44* off just 33 balls.

The lower-order batter has also played in the last three editions of the Hundred, representing London Spirit in the first two years before playing for Manchester Originals in the 2024 competition.

Monaghan developed through the Hampshire pathway, first representing the county at U13 level and turned professional in 2023 when the regional centres expanded their staff of salaried cricketers.

Emma Calvert, Director of Women’s Cricket at Surrey, said “We are incredibly excited that Alice has agreed to join us from the 2025 season. Alice is a very talented young cricketer who has the ability to impact games of cricket with the bat, ball and in the field.

“She will be a fantastic addition to our squad and I am excited to see what she can achieve wearing the Three Feathers.”

Alice Monaghan said: “I am very excited to be entering the new Tier 1 era as a Surrey player. The club have exciting plans for the team and it’s been clear from the outside of their commitment and support to the women’s game.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for me to develop into the cricketer I want to become and I’m looking to grab the opportunity with both hands and contribute to winning games of cricket for the group.”

Monaghan’s announcement comes on the same day that the ECB announced the alignment of the men’s and women’s white-ball competitions for the 2025 season.

The move will see men’s and women’s teams competing side by side in the Vitality Blast and the Metro Bank One Day Cup from the 2025 season.

The eight women’s Tier One professional county teams will compete in the Vitality Blast women’s competition and Metro Bank One Day Cup women’s competition, played alongside the Vitality Blast men’s competition and Metro Bank One Day Cup men’s competition.
