Rain-curtailed day one at Guildford - Kia Oval Skip to main content

A rain-interrupted start to Surrey’s Second XI Championship campaign meant only 23 overs were bowled on day one at Guildford.

Skipper Josh Blake won the toss on a chilly morning in GU1 and inserted Sussex to bat, with visiting captain OJ Carter and ZB Lion-Cachet walking out to begin the innings.

Carter (50*) and Lion-Cachet (41*) started steadily and gradually found their flow against the new ball of Conor McKerr and Matt Dunn. The openers had taken Sussex to 65/0 before the morning session was cut short by rain.

An early lunch turned into a delayed afternoon session by the time the weather improved and players took the field again.

The break in play did not seem to affect the concentration of the visiting openers, who carried on after lunch from where they had left off.

Sussex reached 97/0 and Carter had just moved to his half-century when the weather worsened again and the day’s play eventually was called off.
